Through language study, I have been lucky enough to travel, live and study in-region and forge strong friendships. A strong command of Spanish and Portuguese has also set me apart professionally in a job market where international experience and expertise are increasingly sought-after attributes.

Learning German has changed my life forever.

Take every opportunity to practice your secondary language, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

By learning a new language, it helps us to love one another and acknowledge those who speak a different language.

The study of Spanish empowered me to develop life-long relationships, gave me the opportunity to study abroad, led me to further my graduate study of Spanish literature, and helped me meet my wife.

My choice of language has taken me to some of the most amazing places in the world.

I've been able to travel to many French-speaking countries and being able to speak the language makes the experience all the more rewarding.

Language training at UW-Madison has been an indispensable part of my research endeavors.

Be open-minded, go abroad and explore and use the language you are learning in real life situations.

Learning German and living abroad has given me so much self confidence and tolerance for other ways of life.
