Japan is one of the world’s top economies and one of America’s most important trading partners, home to exciting new technologies and rich classical and pop cultures. The Japanese program at UW-Madison is considered to be one of the best programs in the United States and is well known for its quality and effectiveness. Program faculty provides expertise in a wide range of fields, including Japanese language pedagogy, Japanese linguistics, classical Japanese language, and Japanese literature and visual culture from their beginnings in the eighth century down to the present day in a transnational context.
