Studying languages has made me a more understanding and communicative individual. In the case of Swahili, we spent the majority of time third year discussing political and societal issues in East Africa. By forcing myself to think critically and express myself using a completely different grammatical system and vocabulary, I broadened my capacity to understand another culture.

The language classes were a good place to find a sense of community within the large university.

My German skills have enabled me to do a lot of things that I otherwise couldn't.

Everyday, I get to use my own experiences to benefit others all while continuing to learn about the world around me through other languages and cultures. Langauge learning does not end in the classroom. Get out there, put yourself in uncomfortable situations and don't be afraid to make mistakes!

There isn't a day that goes by where I don't catch myself thinking in another language or remembering vocab words for things that I see!

Being able to travel to and live in a foreign country without having to rely on English is a very proud and empowering experience.

My study of Korean has given me the opportunity to travel, study, and work in a foreign country, and has allowed me to experience the Korean culture in a way that would not be possible otherwise.

Japanese has opened doors for me - It helped me get my first job, advance to new and exciting positions, and helped me to land new business when I founded my own company.

Learning Spanish has led to a lifelong interest in culture and art. It's the enduring theme in both my personal and professional lives.

I really would not be where I am today without my knowledge of the Spanish language.
