Learning Hmong has changed my perspective on the Hmong culture and strengthened my relationship with my community along with my parents.

By knowing another language and living abroad, not only did my intellect grow and deepen, my heart also opened.

Once you open yourself up to learning world languages, they will open you up to the world.

Studying languages has made me a more understanding and communicative individual. In the case of Swahili, we spent the majority of time third year discussing political and societal issues in East Africa. By forcing myself to think critically and express myself using a completely different grammatical system and vocabulary, I broadened my capacity to understand another culture.

More than the ability to communicate in Spanish that has benefited my career, I know that my Spanish Language major immeasurably improved my ability to communicate in English.

Living in China has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life...Chinese has made me a better person.

Language not only gave me the confidence to become a strong leader within the Hmong community, but also to become more aware of the cultural differences we have in the world.

Language classes were different because they were so immediately applicable -- you learned a skill you could practice right away.

Being able to travel to and live in a foreign country without having to rely on English is a very proud and empowering experience.

Language classes was are intense yet fun and full-filling.
